What does it mean to choose joy? How can we say in truth that we are joyful when life’s circumstances feel overwhelming and hard to get through? Paul writes a letter to the church at Philippi from some of the worst circumstances that one might imagine. Paul was in prison for following Jesus. He wasn’t there because of anything he had done wrong. Much like Jesus, who suffered and died on a Roman cross though he was innocent, Paul too was innocent of any real crime. And yet, innocent and suffering, both Paul and Jesus (Hebrews 12:2) found joy. How do we find joy in such circumstances of life?
